Wrestling an idea free from its matrix, filing off the serial number -- and inscribing my own -- takes several passes.
Just realized that the happy ending for the love story requires a certain plot shift earlier.
The original story didn't have a happy ending because it didn't end. How annoying.
It also doesn't help that I'm trying to run it parallel to the villain's plot and juggling it in new and different way.
