steam and sorcery?
So there's a scene in the story that opens with two girls are sitting at a pastry shop. (Eating pastries, of all things.)
And was contemplating the tech level involved. A late enough level to arouse no questions . Thinking steampunk-ish, but. . .
Should it be tech? There's a lot of magic in this world. And there's always the possibility of steampunk-level magiteck, a la Magic, Inc. or Operation Chaos. It would require a lot of low-level magic, to be sure, but that could occur as a side-line to the high-level magic that's being thrown about in abundance. And a tech vs. magic tension doesn't really fit the story.
OTOH, having such a sideline could have consequences. . . .
