I know what happens in it. I even have a point of view character whose job in the fight will ensure he gets a good view of what happens.

It's getting it to break out that's hard.

Added some more motive for our hero to join in, since a fair number will fight because they took on the job, but he's free, and has to take her danger personally, or else hate her personally. I went for hate, with danger as a subtheme.

Immediate precipitant is finishing their preparations. I think they will discover she realized they were coming since they took some time to prepare.
