Anything Goes

Anything Goes by Theodore Dalrymple

A collection of the essays of Dr. Dalrymple -- many of which I first read online.  Many somewhat occasional.

For instance, the diary of observations on a trip through Europe, like the differences in landscape between Belgium and Holland.  Reviewing a memoir of her escape by a woman whose parents died in the Holocaust and who herself fled through a window while under arrest by the Gestapo -- which woman was later to teach him medicine -- which also gives him an occasion to reflect on his mother's life, she having escaped the Holocaust also, though not quite so narrowly.

Themes run through it.  Many are on the impossibility of understanding ourselves; many others (and some overlap) on evil.

Interesting collection
