issues in world-building
I have a story idea. It involves a world where there are frequently brawls, sometimes fatal, in the streets.
A pretty typical one, in other worlds. Perhaps more equal opportunity for death. . . .
To attend the court of Louis XIV, a man had to carry a sword; as a consequence, Versailles saw a booming business in sword rentals. And one of Beau Brummel's decrees was that men should stop carrying swords, which meant they were carrying them before.
That is less important than that I've got to world-build and make it convincing, and figure out how my heroine and my hero can slither about the violence without getting injured.
Probably magic.
