peck his eyes out
Sometimes your fairy tale heroine needs a little protection, and it gets complicated when the hero's dead.
Fortunately, the tale I was thinking of, the hero brought back not only a heroine, but a bird of some kind. Probably a horse as well, but I don't think I can get away with her living in the stables. The bird can try to peck the hero's brothers' eyes out, though.
I suspect the brothers are going to tell their father the king that the bird is still angry about being brought back. What they are going to say about the heroine is going to be a bit more tricky to figure out, especially if she instigates the pecking.
