City Beyond Time: Tales of the Fall of Metachronopolis by John C. Wright

A collection of short stories, revolving about time travel.  With links, sometimes very faint.  Then, time travel and cause-and-effect have interesting relationships here.

The first and last are told in achronic order, which suits them well.  We have mysteries, attempts at rescue, and the effects of time travel and cause-and-effect on interactions.  A private investigator who observes that, in fact, a trenchcoat and fedora are normal attire where he comes from.  A widowed bum.  The fates of those whom the Time Wardens are no longer interested in but don't let leave.  And more.

Discovery by Karina Fabian

It opens with a scene to set the stage:  an accident at a space mining operation.  Three religious sisters -- of Our Lady of Rescue -- in action.  Shortly therefore, they are among the three off on a mission to the very end of the Solar System, where is a shipwreck.  Of an alien ship.  This was discovered only by telescope, so they are the first people out there.

They Called Me Dragon: A Narrative Account of My Adventures on the Planet Earth by Gail Ann Gibbs

An alien from another dimension comes to Earth as a high-gravity location that will assist his recovery. He knows and fully intends to keep the rules about avoiding contact with those primitive humans, which can be dangerous to them, but he promises a friend to observe them at a safe distance.

Then he falls asleep one day in a glacial lake, and is seen.

Complications follow, thickly. The retrospective account allows him to cover the years that ensue briskly, as he keeps trying to fix things and often faces graver consequences, and puts more humor into it.

In the Lamplight: The Fantastic Worlds of L. Jagi Lamplighter by L. Jagi Lamplighter

A varied collection of works. Some historical fantasy, some contemporary fantasy, some SF. One that, in the end, reveals itself to be mundane fiction.

I'm particularly fond of "Never Again the Same" and "Knight's Mate". Some are based in the same worlds as her other published works, but they stand alone.
