on powers, good and evil
So, for plot contrivance reasons, there are not good powers and evil powers, beyond the obvious things like "animating the bodies of the dead" or poisoning people, which are intrinsically evil.
Was poking at the world building and realizing that it's not only a matter of personality but also of culture -- and climate. Those who live in the artic north regard ice powers with trepidation, and those who assume them there are, indeed, often bitter, cutting, arrogant souls, as opposed to those with fire powers, who are as warm as the hearth, or the stalwart defenders of the hearth. In the south, that would be -- well, in the humid regions -- the descriptions are reversed. Cold and shadow are good.
In the drier regions, the best is to blow both hot and cold, but they are willing to pair up magical knights. One will cool the area, and shield it from sunlight, during the day; the other will warm and light it up by night.
It's nice when a world comes to together. And if people's expectations about powers and personality clash as they travel -- oh, well, travel does always have its little issues.
