Turkish Fairy Tales & Folk Tales by Ignác Kúnos

A collection of fairy tales. I recognized all the types, but they are not the commonest, and they were all distinct variants.


One fool type struck me as particularly ill-organized, and there was one cumulative tale, but most were pure fairy tales.

The openings were full of flourishes, and I particularly like

Once upon a time in the old old days when straws were sieves, and the camel a chapman, and the mouse a barber, and the cuckoo a tailor, and the donkey ran errands, and the tortoise baked bread, and I was only fifteen years old, but my father rocked my cradle, and there was a miller in the land who had a black cat --
