You have an elemental well-spring to power your abilities as a magical knight, and you have a dominion that determines what they are. You can have a well-spring of earth, and use fire powers as your dominion. No relationship.
Except, I decide, since some powers are opposed, they are impossible. A well-spring of earth can do earth powers, fire powers, water powers, plant powers, the original dominion of just being fast and strong, and more. But not air.
