on steampunk

This article has some neat thoughts on the popularity of steampunk.

Me, I like steampunk because it's cool and fun.

Good explanation of what's going on. You see it other places besides SF, of course; retro styling, back to basics push in schools and home schoolers, and the current antique craze.

I wonder about bringing it up in "standard" SF, in particular, a setting about a hundred years off, after a near-cataclysm launching a nostalgia storm. I'm working on that for NanoWriMo.

I like the notion of some robots with my lace and frills :-)

And rivets. All must be riveted.

(psst: in her review of Warrior Wisewoman, Amal El-Mohtar says, Other highlights for me were Fran LaPlaca's "Faith," Mary Catelli's "Among the Wastes of Time," and Colleen Anderson's "Ice Queen." Woot! Way to go!)
