The hero is about to kill another evil wizard living under the protection of the king's knights.
And the muse said not to be silly. He can't just go for the kill on two of them, because after this one he's going to meet up with the secondary hero, who is a knight. And you haven't established a pattern with the first kill.
So I'm improvising a new scene in the middle of, fortunately, a loose sequence of events where the characters were going on with their lives. And, fortunately, using a piece of necromancy devised in the earlier drama. There, two extra-legal killings. A pattern.
