cover question

Opinions on a pair of covers solicited. The story is set in a 19th-century-ish world, and features a lady who's given some trouble by the -- ehem -- Good Folk. Which do you like better?

I like the second better. The first is charming but it looks a little cluttered to me, plus I think there's a loss of resolution. Second is beautiful, crisp, strong, and elegant.

Both images are lovely. I think, for me, it would depend on the feel of your story. The first one has a more mischievous feel, the second one a more ethereal feel.

I like the second one best.

As-is, I like the second one better -- but it might be improved by some form of texturing in the beige areas? Subtle texturing.

I'm preferring the second, mostly because the low resolution of the first one bothers me. Separate from that issue, the first says "fantasy, probably aimed at kids" to me and the second "period romance."

Not sure.

The second one is a nice picture, but it doesn't tell much about the contents of the book. The first one seems more on-topic... but the quality is horrible and if you don't have a higher-resolution version, should not be used.

On the 1st cover, the blurry glow around the letters looks rather ugly in my opinion. I suggest finding some other way of emphasizing them. And on the 2nd cover, the major problem is how the title gets way too close to the poor lady, as if she was being stabbed with it.

Ooh. Hard question!

The second one is strikingly beautiful, but I think the first one makes me more curious.

I think my problem with the first one is that it strikes my eye as slightly blurry. Any possibility of getting a crisper copy of the picture?

It is definitely lovely!

More professional

The second one looks a lot more professional (though it would probably need a little breathing space on the left, so that the letter aren't so close to the edge, and a little less spacing between lines; those two simple changes would improve it greatly).

I love the little imps on the first, but the cover as a whole screams non-professionally-made to me and might cause some potential buyers who don't know your books to steer clear of your work.
