hedge witchery and the limits of power

How powerful does a wizard have to be to make a magical knight?

Security through obscurity can only do so much. As can the use of exotic and expensive ingredients. Especially given that wizards and knights are a long standing institution.

It could be a lot weaker for a weaker wizard. Then the very best wizards see variations in their knights, depending on what they try to get them to do, and how well it suits them.

I think there shall definitely be rumors of hedge wizards who make weak knights. Useful for insults, and an explanation why there are knights with no known wizard behind him.

Still, I suspect I shall decree that there is a limit past which it is just silly.
