Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
The Aurora Cycle book 2. Spoilers ahead for book 1.
As in, it opens with Magellan chirpily describing the squad, and then Tyler and Scarlett trying to sell the ship after the adventures of the last book. It goes badly, as in the news broadcast denounces them as terrorists.
Escapes, chaos, coded messages, gifts that are truly and astoundingly baffling (some of which will have to become clear in the third book), secrets (one of which I think was not foreshadowed enough, and another of which I wondered about last book), remembering the death of Cat rather often, partings and captivity, and much more.
