Morgan Barod by Moe Lane
The Fermi Resolution returns! High fantasy post-apocalyptic America!
Part of this was published as a story in Shadow of the Tower, but the only effect of reading that (or Frozen Dreams) first is a certain awareness of the significance of some events.
It takes place at the beginning of the history.
As in, seven years after the apocalypse. After dreaming, the main character wakes up in a hospital, rain dripping on him through several floors. He discovers magical sigils and fights monsters and escapes outside, meeting some intelligent snakes and fighting some monsters. He meets other humans and resolves to find his way to his old home and learn who lived, or didn't. (He does have the advantage of having been brought up a re-enactor.)
Adventures ensue. The world has not unfolded fully into high fantasy, no elves or orcs, thoughvampires and zombies do appear, with some twists.
Ends after a distinct triumph and conclusion, though there are definitely plot hooks.
