anti-magic

The world is rich in anti-magic. As is only to be expected in a world as rich in high-powered magic.
There are wrinkles. You can make a zone in which magic is impossible. If you ask whether that includes healing magic, or motion magic to get you to healing, why the answer is Yes. After there, you can make one magic impossible. This can go down to one spell, or up to one type of magic. Consequently there is an endless arms race between those who defend with it, and those who attack despite it.
Antimagic perimeters are commonplace, of course, but have their own complications about what can be smuggled inside.
And all this because I wanted to explain one character without magic nevertheless being useful.
