A character has escaped! Hurrah! Away from the necromancers, away from the battle. . . .
Away from the food.
What there was of it. None of the necromancers were overweight, but their captives were worse off. He's not only filthy and ragged but stick thin.
Hmm -- for plot reasons, I don't want him much about people while still obviously showing signs of his sufferings. But -- hmmm -- come to think of it, there are people nearby who collaborated with the necromancers, and he knows it. Stealing food and clothes will strike him as only fair.
Perhaps I will give him a magical bag. It would be trivial for a necromancer to give him to carry, and then he can flee with it. That will give him time to recover without betraying where he had come from. The collaborators' attitudes frighten him at first, and then he's justly fearful of the reactions because people may think necromancers gave him powers.
