Was pondering the necromancers' motives for the inciting incident.

Then it occurred to me: idiocy.

Yes, they are all very intelligent, they have to be to study as much as they do and to make the discoveries they do. Still, they can make idiotic decisions, especially when they convince themselves they are being very clever.

I don't have to make it all clear, the point of view character would never hear it all, but if the leaders kill those responsible, much will be conveyed
