So the hero and the princess heroine are sitting around talking between the tasks he has to do. . . .
He tells her the story about him and his sister and the witch, when they were children. And she tells him that she -- didn't have much back story. No prophecy, no stepmother, no wicked fairy godmother. . . .
hmmmmm. . . .
In the fairy tale, the princess can just be under a curse. It's when you try to give it the novelistic treatment that you need to work in the background.
hmmm. . . .
I concluded that they will not conclude that it was the truth, but that it's very probable that the fate of a cousin of hers inspired it, because that cousin was in one of the nastier Twelve Dancing Princesses tales, and never married. The soldier who rescued her from the evil dancers refused her because she had voluntarily danced with them. Revenge is ensuing.
I may have to decide if it's the truth before I'm done outlining.
