We have werewolves and other shapeshifters, and the heroine -- I know her -- is going to contemplate the others. The dragons, the trolls -- if I put 'em in, the mermaids --
These are human in origin; these are, if human in origin, not in a manner discernible by a human merely studying them.
And am I going to throw in some critters that are magical but not intelligent?
Hmmm. . . .
Might throw in a character about how a human can change permanently, and that has consequences. Might not. Will have to consider whether it works to leave the question hanging. . . .
