A book cover is a sales tool. Should signal the contents. Particularly the genre.
It is therefore annoying to contemplate a story and realize that having neither unicorns nor dragons nor hippogriffs nor any other fantastical creature -- it has only the spell. A single spell, cast once without visual special effects. In fact, the hero sleeps through it and learns of it only through its results. Which are auditory, not visual.
sigh.
Perhaps I should put the swords on the cover inside. Since I do have a sword fight.
