My efforts:
Basil climbed to the King's Seat. His guide laughed and talked of fool tourists. Basil smiled now and again.
He paced the distance of the stone, smooth between two jagged outcroppings, so the guide would not see he measrued it.
The king had been a gryphon, he concluded. Too small for a dragon.
