My effort:
Don't overestimate them. No matter what ominous tales you are told over the ale, about their craft, their cunning, their peril, don't.
True, luring travelers with lights over water is dangerous, but other than that, their biggest craft was convincing everyone they are so crafty. They smile, and everyone dreads.
