Ah, words.

Was thinking of some villains and giving them the name of closest approximation in the real world: Leveler. Much later, remembering how often the term "level" gets thrown around in D&D. (Those not familair can check out this.) Most D&D characters would probably think that a leveler is someone who wants to gain levels, and therefore experience points, at all costs, not someone who wants to bring everyone down to the same level.

Considering, considering. . .

Meanwhile, it would be odd if my characters, at their current levels, had no magic items. Was poking around lists in hopes it would help organize my thoughts. Well, it did inspire a scene where they get lectured, at some length, about how useless various things will be in the dungeon, owing both to the underground location and to its -- oddities. True, it's fiction, and the magic items should be chosen for pertinence. Even if it's how irrelevant they are, to underscore how alien this all is.

And what spells they could use. At least one idea -- one character uses a spell that creates low-level damage from several different types -- fire, acid, ice, etc -- and explains that it's to detect vulnerabilities.

And considering how few things in the dungeon I can have. Given how the dungeons work in this world, the characters are going to have to grind through every room. And it's not going to be a twenty-volume series of dungeon crawl.

You start with what you start with, but sometimes the story moments to be linked together sit unhelpfully in a pile while you try to sort.
