Figuring out what the heroine lacks and needs to have. And all because I worked out some backstory. . .
It started with an amazingly lucky thing that happened to her -- and about thirty other people. Working out the consequences included the time when a member of her party decided she was bad luck, her good luck having been used up, and convinced most of the rest to abandon her.
Total party kill for those who abandoned her, but still, it left her with a burning desire for companions she could rely on.
