Threw in some cases where the powers went badly haywire shortly after being picked up. On "destroy a small city" level of destructiveness.

And writing on and on before it dawns on me, someone's going to ask what our heroine's power does to these sites. Hmmmm --hmmmm --

Well, she will have to on site. Perhaps it's too dangerous to get into a useful range. Or perhaps the ongoing stuff is not actually the powers she can affect -- because a superheroine who can negate the consequences of such haywire powers is not the story I'm telling.
