The door had the snarling gryphon on it, in gold and ruby. Corridon wondered how Ronal endured that kind of excess. Or perhaps he had gotten used to it.
He knocked.
The door glided open as silently as a shadow shifting over grass. And no one stood near it, inside.

"Watch this." He walked toward the door.
Briefly.
Then he swerved left, and left again, and then right. It seemed to take until the third turn for the though to catch up to him, but then his face turned baffled. He was no farther from the door, but not closer, either.

Pillars of marble stood, in red, purple, and green, down the shadowed hall. At the end of it a door gleamed in gold, from the light of a vast diamond gleaming over it. To either side stood suits of armor, vast swords ready to attack.
He did not stint.

Snow struck her face. Her hand struck the wall. Solid wood, but she could not see far enough, in any direction, to tell what part it was. She inched along, cursing with every step how she had used up every spell getting this far.
She nearly wept at the door.

The pale, broad stairs went up and up. Beyond stood a vast doorway without a door, and a glowing light hung against a bluish wall, looking like the sun here in the middle of the night.
They climbed. Rosine told herself it could not be harder than climbing a mountainside.

"I can hear them coming."

"Yes, they know about me, and all entrances are watched. I don't bother locking anymore."

"Another trap?" Frank yelled. "I'll kill you before they get me!"

"Either wait for them to arrive, or go through that door forever in the next 55 seconds. Your choice."

"They trust the rest of the wall, but the entrance they protect with 4 towers."

"So shall we tell him the entrance is the weakest point?"

"Strength comes from the men, not the armor. They put more men at the gate. If we achieve surprise we will overtop the wall."
