She felt the twinge as she reached the registers and looked sharply up. The red-jacketed thief was by the door, where the silly plastic roses were hung on the wall. She could not reach it unseen by the cameras, or with her groceries that she had not paid for yet.

Kiara slid into the room, her rose skirts gliding behind her. She had not really thought on what she expected. Her family had never held a ball; she did not know how you decorated the hall for it.
It seemed that you arrayed the room in candles and cut flowers.

The walls were encrusted with gemstones, aglitter whenever light fell on them. Decoration, thought Aidan, but they had been plastered without thought or pattern. Colors clashed as a sickly green sat by a vivid purple, or a fiery orange by a deep blue.
Who could find this garish mess decorative?

Bentley went on: "Clothing too is a form of decoration. They bring a touch of beauty, but they can be overdone. Just a touch; one should not gild the lily."
