And I still have to make sure that his name is satisfactory for his role. The one I plopped in the outline does not work.
True, he is instrumental in resolving the heroine and her love interest's subplot. True, he is mentioned numerous times in the story, albeit not by name -- that they don't know who he is is part of their problem -- and they knew if they found out they might solve many problems.
BUT -- he's only called by name in this scene.

Date: 2020-04-02 09:08 am (UTC)Then just call him something that applies. I'm thinking of Gladiator, where Maximus was called “(the) Spaniard” for want of a real name. Likewise “Big John” in the song of that name. Or Charlie Brown's “little red-haired girl.”
