It was no time to keep still. She swung herself up and onto the higher level. The clockwork mouse had its attention wholly on Florio, looming over him. For a moment, she hoped that it was larger than life size, but she kept scrambling over even as she did so.

She barely had time to see that before she was moving. Falling, back toward the roof, and he was falling, too, his eyes looking strange, and then she sprawled there, and he lay collapsed like a puppet bereft of the hand that moved it.
She screamed. He did not move.

"What's that?"

"The eviction notice. 24 hours."

"They can't start proceedings for another month yet. I'll sue!"

She handed the sheet to Rodney. "This one's different. Word got around about your rent strike organization, and they're breaking the lease on grounds of bad faith."

"I'll sue anyway!"

"Not with my money!"

Otto came across the ballroom fall with a young man behind him. Autumn hesitated. They did want her to make a good showing at her first ball, when they were so intent on arranging her marriage.
"Autumn, this is Lord Tristan, that new heir who is new to the city."

On the other hand, it was not just a matter of moving.
"When they calculate a day's journey," said Aidan, "do they include fights along the way?"
Edwin shrugged. "They try to, but it can be confusing. A large group that's not likely to be attacked will move slower, anyway."
