"Autumn," he said.
"There were too many Eileens in my family," she said and shrugged. "What else could they do?"
"Call you Spring, perhaps," said Tristan. "Though I suppose that Autumn suits you better. Early autumn, with many leaves still green, for your eyes."
She giggled.
"But more are red."

"You can tell by many things," said the scientist. "Look at their names. Apollos. Lunette. Neither one took the name of the Greek god, or the Roman one either. Peculiar when the power comes from a ritual."
She wondered whether he would listen if she told him that hers hadn't.

"I, too, would be happier if we could lay a name to our foes," said Robert, his voice deep. "I am not indifferent. But we have lived many a time without knowing what we faced, or what danger we were therefore in. It is part of the life of adventure."

"Don't you remember your name?" the boy whispered.
She shook her head.
"It can be hard, what with -- " He rolled his eyes. "She called me Karl, Aurelio, Stephan, all today. But I remember my name. It's Florio."
She looked down. Something had happened to her memory.
"And yours is Rosine."

Daffyd continued along the dark cross corridor. Ilmen continued, “That was when everything received its name, back when men spoke the elder language.”
“What does the elder language call this place?”
“It is a new kind of thing. A Namer would have to give it its name, but it might be like `kartus lugja.’ I know of no Namers any more.”

"Of course it matters!" Four Smokes warned. "Your name is not a place in the message wall we put tokens on. It tells how your people have known you, and what they hope for you."

"Suppose a man wants to start over with his life?" Nemo instantly sensed that the question had been a mistake.

I hope his family doesn't mind my taking his name in vain...
