Autumn looked about the kitchen. Fresh fruit, milk, soft cheese. She sighed. Rather, hard cheese, bread, and dried meat. A bottle for water and a hope she found wells along the way.
She took up a peach to eat as she left. Perhaps she would something besides journey food someday.

She still needed bread, she reminded herself. She still needed to eat. Superpowers were like that.
For a moment, she wondered whether Apollos could live off the sunlight like a plant. Then she told herself to stopping being such a fool, and to go pick out a loaf of bread.

"At that distance they'll see the flour in your hair as grey. And with some flour paste we can glue crumbs all over your chin—presto, you're a greybeard! Just don't overdo that fake limp."
