Ava was too busy peering ahead, it seemed, to hear her. Leaning, she left smudges on the window. "Is that the castle?"
Millefleur sighed and sat back. "No, not yet." If they had come by airship, they would be there already, but Ava had to learn some degree of patience.

"This is awkward. I have to take delivery of the beasts this afternoon, and if they don't work well I can't return them after the drover leaves. Please convey my gratitude at the unexpected favor, and my sorrow that I cannot come."

The groom brought his horse out.
Ivan mounted in the morning mist. Still bitterly cold. He nevertheless had confidence that the windows, still dark, were filled with eyes that watched him, and the tongues were already busy with the tales they were inventing.
They would get his name right. Perhaps.

Ciara stood and went to get herself another book. Another sweet tale of adventure and the rescue of a distressed lady, with wonders and marvels and magic. She sighed, looking at the shelves. Who else in the city could lead such a useful life while doing nothing of actual use?
