That they were the very picture of heroes out of legend was no reason to be terrified. Some reason, perhaps, in that they had found fit to summon their company. They were skilled at adventure, but there were others of their ability.
And summons usually meant a great danger arose.

It was not, thought Aidan, a very good picture. He glowed too brightly, he towered too well, and the tigerkind looked more like a frightened kitten than the monster who had nearly destroyed him.
"You do me honor," he said. "To treat my deeds like a great hero's so young."

He wished they would send portraits and let him pick from one. He wouldn't care that it would flatter the potential brides outrageously. It would be a silly, vapid girl who had her eye on royal rubies like all the rest.
"You haven't heard a word I said," said Orlando.

She appeared in the arched doorway, and paused thus framed to let them see her as if in a picture. Her tumbling hair was blue, her collar absurdly broad, her gown striped shades of purple, or perhaps a pair of balloon-like pants, so full as to appear like a skirt.

Dante stared back at the glowering crusader over the dining room door. What would Girard have made of the tourists gawking through his hall, or of his impecunious descendant who charged them 8 shillings to enter?

He grinned. If Esme found the idea amusing too, perhaps they could find out.

Girard would probably argue he was poorer than they were.

"The savages were right, of course, but it didn't matter. A photograph steals only the tiniest fraction of your soul. Unless she happens to live a few thousand years, she will always safely remain herself."

Dennis put his head in his hands. "But she wants to become a movie star!"

That would be a problem.

only if you need a soul... One could argue that they are superfluous in Hollywood.
