Throwing around elemental magic --

And I was thinking that actually, the best way to fight fire magic is to use your own fire magic spells on it, to control it.  And the same with all the rest.

Except that some of them are stronger in some spells than others.  And even though it's not the pure classical elements, there can be ways to fight fire with earth or water or air. . . .

Especially if there is no air, or no oxygen anyway.  - An elemental mage might not know from oxygen, but he should be able to herd all the phlogiston out of an area and starve a fire…

Depends on how delicate a touch they have. Someone who could summon a tsunami-scale wave might not be able to do something so fine-grained.

I'd think that the ability to summon is useless without the ability to dismiss. In fact, dismissal would be the first lesson to learn. So if you can summon a fire elemental, you can dismiss it too--provided you know its "name."

No elementals, which would really throw a spanner in the works. Just ordinary fires.
