The medicine, redder than a ruby, slowly drained from the spoon into the drink. Ava stared at it. It would taste awful, she just knew it.
"Ah, my lady! Your daughter will be well. But do try to keep calm now. She will be fretful, she can not help it."

She pushed the window open. The drain had borne off all of last night's rainfall, leaving only a cool, sparkling day with sunshine and a sprightly breeze. She idly looked back, enough so she could scorn any suspicion from Otto or Walter. As if looking out a window were wrong!

My thoughts flew as we walked, and I watched. Ditches draining water to either side of the road, but it was, also, a very good road. The cottages looked snug enough, and there were flowers in their gardens, not merely vegetables. To feed the bees, perhaps? I scowled in thought.

Angela eyed her. Spellcraft that blasted with fire, or that drained life from their foes, would be more help.
Then, she supposed that Celestine could not help dreaming of this place any more than she could have. They had to live with what they had, and she was little better.

Rosine sipped at her cup. She would drain it by the end of the meal, but now, that would only get it refilled. She did not want to be drunk tonight, or hung over tomorrow.
She had never been either. This was no time to give up that prudent measure.
