"The school is in the countryside," said her father. "It gives you scope for your spells. It is a green and pleasant place, and you will have a number of schoolmates, of your own age, to test your skills against." He smiled. "You may find it a challenge, at that."

"I know what they would say," said Felix. "That we are country chits, raised among the cows, who do not know all the fine and subtle details of life to fit in graciously among the highborn."
"Probably right." Lucie grinned. "Do not even notice what they do that's so fine."

"You can sneer at soap," said Ross, "but I notice you use it." He turned back to me. "This place is rural."
As if I hadn't noticed. Or would imagine that anything else was possible, what with the technology they failed to enjoy.
"A great deal of effort is needed for things that are just taken for granted outside."
