time of confusion

marycatelliCharacter is confused.
And not a situation where he sees a labyrinth before him, goes in with the knowledge that he may get confused, and does so. He gets blind-sided by this.
And he has to be the point of view character on account of the other characters in the scene will never be point of view. Not to mention that his confusion is important.
So when does he figure out when he's confused? And why?
On the bright side, he does realize that he's likely facing some magic right up front. He's wrong about all the possibilities, and I think it's not until his second complication that he figures it out. . . and this is going to be fun to convey without annoying the audience.
