Unfortunately, our hero will spend it at the castle of an evil fairy.
That's one thing about fairy tales. You never have weather except for immediate, practical purpose. It's useful for the good stepdaughter to impress Father Frost with her courtesy, and for the evil daughter to freeze to death. All right, Sister of "Brother and Sister" can also declare "Heaven and our hearts are weeping together," but once it does its dramatic work, it doesn't impede their journey through the woods (or their stepmother's curses).
Sometimes you can elide weather in the novel form, too, but it doesn't work as well.
And I think it's going to have to be colder than his home. Perhaps more snowy, too, but the snow's not going to be melting at all all winter.
