the ways of the witch

Outline was stirring. The other witch was taking shape. I pondered her character, and how she needed to more complex from her niceness to the heroine vs. her nastiness to the hero.
Poke, poke, poke --
Actually, she reveals, she was considerably nasty all along. Because of her traumatic past, and other factors, the heroine did not realize that, and furthermore had taken sage precautions that made it less dangerous -- because "considerably" does not mean "entirely." So the issue is making the heroine not a blithering idiot to not notice.
More than she does. I shall extenuate that, I hope, by contrast to the wicked stepmother. And the heroine's lack of options. Plus some of its being purely verbal so it might be all talk.
And meanwhile I need a name for the hero. And have just learned that his mother is the witch's sister. He doesn't realize it because only one looks like an ogress. Also there has to be another tale type at the end, to deal with the mother.
Also, I need at least one fairy tale that would be visible, in part, from a seashore tower. That's for the story before this.
