Her governess would scold her for speculating wildly before she knew anything. Worse than worthless, because wild thoughts could misled her so that backtracking was harder than starting from nothing.
She sat up straight on the bench and looked ahead. A castle emerged ahead. Not, she thought, an old one.

This was a complete waste of time. Bartholomew would caution him until he ceased to listen, and then, perhaps, something would happen that he should have listened, but he was already deafened by the worthlessness of everything Bartholomew said.
No, perhaps he would marry first, and so escape this all.

That powerful stench was some kind of vanilla flavoring in the coffee. Her nose wrinkled. What useless information. She could already tell that she did not like it, but the name was worthless.
The knowledge that she might get a headache from smelling it while she ate breakfast was unwelcome.
