The Belle Époque: A Cultural History, Paris and Beyond by Dominique Kalifa
This is a study of the idea of the Belle Époque, the period from about 1900 to the outbreak of WWI, not the era itself.
Except to survey the evidence that it viewed itself as such a thing (very thin) or as having the traits attributed to the Belle Époque (also thin).
The 1920s was all modernity and did little pre-war nostalgia. After all, that led to the war. It picked up in the 1930s and reached full bloom in the Occupation, where one had to deal with German authorities. Nevertheless, it went on, changing drastically in later decades, and also moving outward from France.
