Ava giggled. "Cursed there by a wicked witch. To haunt forever."
Julian's eyes narrowed.
For a brief moment, she dreamed of annoying him into breaking off the engagement, but anger was too dangerous. "It would be a better curse than enchanting him into a frog until a princess kisses him."

Shelly looked out at the flattish expanse of regolith stretching out to the foothills of the mountains that shaded the Soviet moonbase during lunar moring. "So we're going to be digging a trench about the length of a football field, laying a loop of pipe out to the end and back, then covering the whole thing."

Lucius gave her that maddening grin that always made her think of Alan Shepard at his most arrogant. "No worries. Back home in Maine, I spent summers running a Ditch Witch for my dad's trenching company, when I wasn't supervising one of his crews at a second site. Having to do it in a spacesuit will be harder, but I should be able to manage it."

It's a brand name of trenchers and other pipe-laying equipment. Its founding predates the divergence between the Armstrong timeline and the Grissom timeline, so it's both here and there.

Well, she would take it with her. If it were magical, she could use it to enchant a prince at a ball. Or perhaps ask a witch in the woods what it meant.
Who knew? She might find the owner and earn a reward. Heaven knew she could use one.

Two ladies were whispering. One said something about a witch's prisoner.
"She wouldn't do. If one of them married a princess, an heiress, that is the only way."
She started, as if she realized her voice carried, and blushed.
She was right, thought Liam gloomily. His father could divide the kingdom in two, the half that had come with his bride, an only princess, and the half that was his own, and divide it among the other two if only one would marry a princess, heiress to a kingdom. No one could object if each of them had a kingdom.

For a moment, she fancied that a witch had trapped her here, and she would wander endlessly until a prince came and rescued her, having heard of a lovely lady trapped by enchantment.
Who ever heard of a lady who stuttered being rescued?
She hurried after Augusta, just in sight.

"You talk as if hedge witches were a trivial matter," said the other wizard.
Master Stephanos raised an eyebrow. "One would think by definition that the trivial practice of magic was a trivial matter."
"They are causing trouble. Every peasant boils his water by fire spell now, not fire wood."
