I write my outlines and my longhand stories in gel pen.

Which means I write them in color.  Which can get cool.

And I have, indeed, found that if I don't know which color to use I don't really have enough of a notion to outline the story yet.  It needs more time to jell.

OTOH, when the story wants to be written in silver -- on white! -- it can be a little ridiculous.  Such are the quirks of color.

The, I took it up when feeling dry, and it did help.

I use multicoloured pens to edit printed copies... very fond of pink and purple for some reason :)

I hadn't thought of using this way of encoding information, but it could be extremely useful to thread for characters, or plotlines, etc.

I used to use different gel pens for different characters. The colors helped me get into a mood that matched the characters' voices.
