The silence that followed was so absolute that Sylvie could heard the bees buzzing, and that Snowfall was not purring.
"It's not safe, it's not safe." The woman looked about. "What if the king hears that we kept her here without troubling our heads about it? He'll know we knew."

Bunking with Kitties took some getting used to. I'd gotten used to dealing with guys snoring like a sawmill, guys who'd talk in their sleep, but nothing could've prepared me for a dozen toms purring away, tails dangling over the edges of their bunks and twitching.

At least we weren't having to hot-bunk like back on the boomer. Having to clean out someone's shed guard hairs and awn hairs would've been weird.

That would not last forever, or even long, but perhaps he should sit back and purr like a contented cat. Such hours of peace were few and far between.
A knight's life, Marcus told himself. At least he had heard no tales of his having done something that he clearly had not done.
Simon yawned and sat up. Minutes later, he staggered to his feet and toward Marcus. And moments after he had caught him, Grace came out the door, looking anxious.
"Mama!"
Grace smiled, but a moment later, the anxiety was back. "I have to leave for a time."
