He spoke as gravely as a king pronouncing judgment from a golden throne in a marble hall. Soon, he ushered them away, into a hall of a noble who bowed and stared at them. Aurora's breath came out in a huff. Not marble, but a fine house to rest in.

She nodded, and directed them all onto the cart. She put her hands to it and hoped no one saw her face. It did weigh more than when Mafeo moved it, but the distance was so much shorter than it would more than counterbalance it, even if she were no more skilled than he was.
And she was better, having mastered more.
She cast the spell.
She felt the marble floor underfoot.
She let her breath out and stepped away -- tired, but not so much that it would show. The guardsmen already piled out, and Helena leapt down to begin her spellwork.
"What is the meaning of this?" bellowed the -- Lord Mayor himself.
She turned to face him. "Did you not come to the king for justice?" she said frostily. "Did you think that he would stint on it?"
"Got it!" shouted Helena, looking up from the bowl.

The charms sat on the shelf. Like a jar of marbles.
"I need the charms against the mind effects," said Erik. "Dozens if you have them."
Walkelin looked at him. "And what inspires this -- number? They do not protect you tenfold if you carry ten."
"There are people who need to be protected, and who do not trust the king's knights, and who may trust us more if we give them the protection."
Walkelin eyed him.
"And I do not want to fight them, which we may need if they are controlled by one of those wizards," he said.

She looked back. Perhaps a tower of white marble would gleam on the slope from this angle.
She saw nothing. Downhill it was, then. At least the hills meant that many regions were blocked from sight, and she could hope to find refuge. Otherwise, she would be in grave danger.

We arrived that morning to a room stripped of vital equipment, to the point that we had hoses literally dangling from the walls. I'd known about the tension between Marik's teams and Sarid's, but I hadn't expected one of them to decide to just take his marbles and go home.
