There needed to be three. Three situations where the heroine realized she needed to frame the question correctly to solve the problem, because she could only solve it from an unexpected angle.
But the forest was a sticking point. Could not figure out a way where she could tackle it with a philosophical or mathematical insight.
Then I realized that perhaps she could realize she had to tackle it as a forest. Since her father is a nobleman whose lands are on the border, where there will be forests, she will know a trick or two. She just has to remember that she should not ask whether a tree makes a sound if it falls with no one to hear it, because that's not a useful tack.
