Giles shrugged. "It may be pointless. But then, arguing with you certainly is."
Violetta's shoulders eased a little, and they walked on. Glimpses of the woods below sometimes had one or the other of them starting at a shadow, but the thing was always gone before they saw a lion.

Toni shut the door a little harder than necessary. "I haaaaate busywork."

Her father gave her a curt nod. "Then you need to get in a line of work where you're paid for results, not for your time."

"So how do I get that?" Toni didn't even bother to hide the annoyance in her voice.

"For starters, you need to be diligent and industrious in your current job. That means that if your boss needs to see you busy to know he's getting his money's worth, you do busywork and look cheerful about it. Then you look for lines of work that are salaried and produce concrete results."
