King Conrad's face slowly reddened and set with rage, only fueling the whispers.
"You accursed witch! You have stolen my bride to put your own wretched daughter in her place!"
Rosaline stepped back, and Bernard grabbed her arm. Moments later, he stood between them.

Which would they would take as fuel for their spiteful comments, and not as a prudent warning of how slowly news could travel in the hills.
